Update on Krill Oil for Weight Loss

Posted in Uncategorized on July 25, 2009 by roxannelee

I am taking 2 Krill Oil pills each morning.  Krill oil comes from the small shrimp-like marine crustaceans in the Ocean.  Clinical studies have linked consuming Krill with lowered cholesterol, lowered blood pressure, stoppage of plaque build up on artery walls, help to control blood sugar levels  & increase of oxidation of fats within cells.

According to Dr. Mercola krill oil is more effective than fish oils in optimizing your metabolism.

“Krill reduced rat heart fat levels by 42 %, compared to 2 % for fish oils”.

Reishi Mushrooms for Weight Loss

This little powerhouse mushroom has been referred to as the “herb of spiritual potency”. The reishi mushroom has been shown to reduce blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, aid in sleeping and increase energy levels. I have not found this mushroom in a fresh variety yet but I have found a dried tea which contains it as an ingredient and I am drinking this tea daily. I believe you can purchase it in pill form and liquid form as well.

Cortisol Connections to Weight Loss

Posted in Uncategorized on June 27, 2009 by roxannelee

I am going for a blood test this Friday to test my cortisol levels.  I finally found a doctor who would listen to my pleas of “help I exercise everyday eat a healthy diet and still can’t lose this belly fat”.  We are going to check for a few things but the cortisol started my brain rolling.  The real reason I went to the doctor was for my bad skin.  A friend told me that she did some research about acne and that when cortisol levels are high that the skin reacts accordingly.  She also stated that coffee and caffeine contributed to raised levels of cortisol.  Which would ultimately mean that coffee and caffeinated items contribute to belly fat.  Well I started to do some research and low and behold it seems there may be some evidence to this.  So if have a body shape like me where the main area you need to lose weight is in your belly and the rest of your body is pretty fit, you may have a problem with cortisol.

Here are some ways to reduce your cortisol levels:

  1. Cut down on caffeinated beverages such as coffee, tea and chocolate.
  2. Cut down sugar intake.
  3. Stop over-training but continue with moderate exercise.
  4. Do not skip meals, instead have many small meals and healthy snacks throughout the day.
  5. Eat as much organic as you can.
  6. Go for massages.
  7. Laugh more
  8. Use meditation or other forms of mental relaxation.
  9. Use yoga or Tai Chi.
  10. Get a proper amount of sleep.
  11. Say no to commitments that make you stressed.
  12. Take a multi-vitamin.
  13. Take magnesium-C.
  14. Take Phosphatidylserine.
  15. Eat a balanced diet with plenty of green vegetables and low glycemic fruit such as berries.

Goji Berries for Weight Loss

Posted in Uncategorized on June 22, 2009 by roxannelee

The Goji berry is a super food that is a great source of protein.  It has immune stimulating properties and liver cleansing abilities.

21% of the goji berry is made up of fiber.  It is a low glycemic food which means lower blood sugar levels and it also contains chromium which helps control blood sugar levels.

It has also been shown to lower cortisol levels in the body which will lower cravings and reduce fat storage.

The goji berry contains minerals which converts food to energy rather than fat.

Finally it produces more of the human growth hormone which allows for greater muscle retention and higher fat loss.

The berries are not that tasty but raw is obviously best.

Controversial Acai Berries Update

Posted in Uncategorized on June 16, 2009 by roxannelee

I don’t believe there is an overnight fix for weight loss but I do believe there are a lot of great tools out there that can aid and accelerate weight loss.  The acai berry is one of these weight loss tools that I believe to be useful.  It has been called one of the most nutrient dense and potent super foods on earth.  It is an antioxidant which is high in essential fatty acids, omegas 3,6 & 9, fiber & vitamins.  It is a low glycemic food and has been shown to lower cholesterol, blood pressure & toxins.  It is also reported to ward off cravings, suppress appetite and increase energy levels.

Now I know that acai is under attack for false diet claims.  Please be careful of any product that claims it will produce quick effortless results.  Also beware of products that offer a free trial as they usually will auto bill you which can be a pain in the butt.  Use a reliable source to find your product such as a website that you have purchased from before or your local health food store.

I am still going to give the acai berry a fair shot.

Sugar is a serious concern for weight loss.

“Acai berries are great. But acai drinks and other acai products are loaded with sugar – natural and otherwise. Remember your mom telling you to avoid sugar?”
